15'6" Joe Bark Paddleboard For Sale - Fast and needs a Good Home

Mokapu Penninsula Race - Oahu
... I need to move this board!
Get yours in time for the racing season - hurry this price is a STEAL!

Blue Beauty $800 OBO
- this board is 15'6". It was my first magic Bark board. It won the Mokapu race, raced the Maui Maliko Gulch-Kahului race, and set the (still standing) Cline Mann race record in 2008. In 2009, it moved to Kauai where it has helped me train and learn to prone/knee paddle unlimited boards.

The board has a rounded nose and a pulled in tail to create a wonderful combination of stock/unlimited feel. The board has a real nice double concave bottom, perfect rocker and is smaller volume - made for a a person up to 160lbs  (give or take).

I highly recommend it if you are wanting to make the stock to open transition. The board is on Kauai. I need to make space and will gladly ship the board via Young Bros ($50 interisland) / A'ala shipping ($150 to mainland).

Also great board for paddling this year's Na Pali paddleboard race - check out www.NaPaliRace.com and get your board today.

16'6" Joe Bark Paddleboard for sale - Oahu - Price Steal!

Green machine $150 OBO
- this board is one of Joe's first double concave boards. I raced it in the Makapuu-Hawaii Kai race in 2008 and Marc Rocheleau raced it in the Mokapu race in 2008. The board is 16'6" and has a lot of rocker for open ocean paddling.

The pad on the board is scratchy from use, but overall the board is solid. It has some volume and would like a larger rider (160+ lbs). A great board if you want to enter unlimited paddling for a small price tag.... This is a deal as the foam blank alone costs at least $500.

Selling cheap because the board has been rack surfing (rather than out on the water) for the past few years and needs a good home.... and Joe says "Let it get paddled".... we want to see this board out on the water... Located on Oahu. Will ship interisland for additional $50.

email me at kanesa@gmail.com to chat about the board.

Moorea - Haapiti Teaser Boat Ride with Petero

Thor and I finally got around to looking at some of the video we shot on our trip to Tahiti last year. Most of it was taken with my small waterproof camera that I use for my paddleboard adventures, but it's still fun to look at.

This short clip is of our boat ride out to the surf spot at Haapiti on Moorea. We stayed at the surf lodge with Petero, and like so many other people who have been blessed to stay with Petero, we fell in love with the spot and with his hospitality.

Maururu Petero - we'll be back soon for sure!

Kealia Training for Molokai 2011

Footage of me getting prepped and paddling out of the beach near our house, Kealia. It gives a little bit of flavor for what we do paddleboarding....

Gettin on the sunscreen, rashies, & glasses...
Turning up the tunes.....
Got the phone for safety....

As you watch the video, you'll see that the from a far-away perspective, the ocean is flat (this was a pretty calm day), but up close you can see the water moving and the board adjusting to glide from wave to wave - moving like a fish through the water.

Hammerhead Shark Tagging: Form & Function

Back in the day (of my hammerhead shark research), I did a project with photographer and videographer Jonathan Bird for BBC called Sharks of the Ocean Desert. Jonathan has now re-edited part of the piece into his Blue World program.

Check it out (I start at about 4:19 into the video).

Thanks Jonathan for all the great photos and epic video!

Wailua Mirror, Wailua Storm

Mirror  in the River

Last night the water in Wailua river was so glassy that the clouds and mountains were reflected on the water's surface. I couldn't resist snapping a couple of shots and taking a little one-arm paddling video. So beautiful!

And just when  you thought it was safe... the downpour...

Okay, I have to confess - this rain video is from a different day.... and, if you listen to my voice you will notice that I do not sound too pleased about paddling in the rain. What you cannot see is that this rain was followed by a whole lot of lightning and thunder!

Building Mana'o

Time to dust off the pink panther and let her get wet!
As we near the end of winter, and I look ahead in my calendar, I see July 31, 2011 in bright lights - our Molokai Channel race date! ... So I took  the panther out of her cover and let my paddling muscles remember what it is they love to do.

Winter on Kauai means lots of rain, lots of wind, and lots of whales...  Last year I started bringing my phone along for safety, and the benefit is that my phone also takes pictures... please enjoy!

The Swimming Giants
Whales are just so, well, they are so BIG! When the babies are flopping and the moms are grunting, I usually head for the inside route and try to stay out of their way. Lucky for me, the pair that cruised me on this paddle were very mellow, and so I stopped to take their picture. They did a little show for me that I did not capture, but you can see my mammalian friends in this short video...

Mana'o
After paddling down from Kealia beach, I landed in Wailua and continued my paddle into the dark in the river. Along the way, I met papio fisherman Maurice and got to see his catch. We talked about the ocean for a few minutes, and I took this photo (he also took the one of me at the start of this post). Before he kept fishing and I kept paddling, Maurice asked me if I was from the island. This question is always difficult to answer for me. I said no, and he looked at me for a long time. Then he said, "you have a lot of mana'o". Mana'o, as I understand it, is your belief and intention combined with your life experiences and knowledge. Maurice - thank you for the  compliment.
